Wink

My sister tells me that God is winking at me…when bits of joy, large and small, grasp my heart. I know from whence they come. Just tonight on my drive home, the clouds gathered to reveal shades of  red and pink against the coming dusky darkness of evening.

Earlier, as I left the cemetery where I put flowers on the grave of my beloved, there shone a golden light against the autumn leaves, still turning along my roadside path. It caught my breath and stole some of the grief from my chest that was settled there.
He lives.
He winks.
He heals.
He is faithful.
Amen

Bookish

I’m so happy my Lane loves books. My family is quite bookish and we’re always thrilled when one of our progeny follows suit! It’s certainly way Ruth noting in our book(s).

Fair fearlessness

My grandboy rode everything he was tall enough to ride at the state fair. Some things I didn’t think he ought. He sure did have fun, though. I, admittedly, was a wreck while he was on some of the rides!

Giddy up

My grandson has become obsessed with horses. Most children in our family have first preferred “moo cows”
But not this one. Maybe because his granddad bought him the first pair of cowboy boots long before he could walk. His great grandmother got him a stick horse for his first birthday but he’s already ridden a real horse months earlier.
Whatever the reason, he’s a serious horse enthusiast now.

Family stories: pears

My grandma did NOT like mice. And when it came to their large rodent relatives, the rat, despise and fear are appropriate words for the way she felt.
She was never, ever a violent person under any circumstance I knew or heard tell of, save one, the rat encounter I tell of here.
