Labor Day weekend project(s)

I typically spend Labor Day weekend organizing (at least in my mind) projects for the fall. Some times I have even begun projects. On rare occasions I have finished a project during the last long weekend of the summer.
I am not sure where Monday evening will find me but in the time between quitting time today and starting time on Tuesday, I intend at least to get a good start on a couple of projects.
Admittedly, this is because I have others dependent upon me. I seem to work best under pressure.
A few weeks ago and at about the same time,  a nephew and my mother both mentioned family recipe books. I like the ideas pitched to me and agreed it would be fun. I have done nothing further.
This weekend, that should change. If I get nothing else done, I intent to sort through old recipes and get us started toward the common goal. I also intend to email various relatives to solicit recipes.
I am determined to do this...

Pierce Michael Hays

I have a dandy new grandnephew. Pierce Michael Hays was born the day before yesterday.
His Gogo, the subject of an earlier blog post or two, has declared herself to be "absolutely in love."
He appears to have the combined good looks of his parents and his older brother, who is four.
Pierce was actually due today, his mother was scheduled to have a casearean section at 5 p.m. today. Everyone made plans around the big event but this new baby of ours, like many of his cousins, arrived when he was ready and not according to anyone else's schedule.  Quite a crowd of us were there to witness his arrival.
All three of his handsome maternal uncles were there. One of them would not have been able to come if things had gone as planned. A high school senior who is quarter backing at a scrimmage this very night was able to be there when he became an uncle since Pierce timed his own arrival.
That his middle name is for his materal grandfather was supposed to be a surprise but wasn't...my guess is that Pierce's youngster uncle let the cat out of the bag.
Two of baby Pierce's great grandmothers were in attendance. A great, great aunt on his mother's side was there. Pierce's grandma Cathy was wearing one of the biggest smiles I've seen lately. SHe and Gogo will be helping out at Pierce's houses for the next few days and then the great grandma's will take over.
I am planned a coup, though, even as I write this.  The baby's other great aunt and I will be claiming our fair share of baby love very  soon...

my darling

Today my little granddaugher Emma, who is just a few days past her fifth birthday started to kindergarten. Mimi, her other grandmother, and I took Emma and her big sister to school.
Mimi was drafted because the girls' mom had something at work she really didn't need to miss. I volunteered (read: asked to go along) as I had arranged to take the day off to be at the hospital when my new grandnephew was born.
Abbey, the big sister, who is now officially an eighth grader, wanted to be dropped off first. Emma then asked to be dropped off in front of her school like her sister. Mimi and I were having none of that. She was escorted in to her first day by two doting grandmothers. She marched right into her classroom to be greeted by her teacher (who she met at open house just last night) without waving or saying goodbye.
"We didn't even get a kiss," Mimi lamented.  I am not sure what I said in response as I had a big ole lump in my throat. We went to breakfast at the old bus station in town which is now a cafe. We texted the pictures of the girls we took to their mom was we waiting for our food.
I really enjoyed myself, but still, all day, I've had this overwhelming urge to cry. And i think I know why...
