A practically perfect day

We decided to walk back to our hotel. It was a nice day and the walk was not all that far.
Our path took us alongside the Tiber. The views were magnificient.  We passed a Street Carnival.
and then walked on past the Castle and the Hall of Justice, stopping at both places to take pictures.
A friend had told me that the best food in Rome could be found in indiscreet locales below street level. We'd had our fill of qiuck food stuffs and were famished so we ducked into a place noticeable only by a small sign at the entrance.
There was not a soul inside save a charming little Italian man little sister declared to be a dead ringer for Pinocchio's father from the Disney classic. We asked if we were too early for dinner and he assured us we were not. "I will cook it myself," he said. He was also our waiter and our wine steward and by the end my favorite host of all. (with the waiter from a sidewalk cafe in Venice being a very close second.)
We were feeling so refreshed by the end of our sumptous meal that we did a bit more walking.
Rome is a beautiful city by day or night but on this particular evening, it seemed especially so,  with opera music in the distance and the Nautilus fountain in our view, our Saturday in Roma was declared to have been practically perfect.
