Rosalie

Rosalie has an impressive history. She was built on the site of Fort Rosalie overlooking the mighty Mississippi. Bienville established Fort Rosalie in 1716, two years before the birth of New Orleans. That date established Natchez as the oldest continuous settlement on the river and gives the beautiful house constructed on the site some serious credentials.
Rosalie is now owned by the daughters of the American Revolution after being the home to several noteable Natchez families.
The house and gardens are well and  carefully maintained by the DAR. Many of the furnishings inside are original to the house. We particularly loves the children's nursery, the doll collection in the great hall, the grandfather clock near the staircase with its pretty face and the John James Audubon prints in the library.

Our guide reminded us to ring the great bell in the garden on our way out. Legend has it that to do so guarantees a return to Natchez and to Rosalie.
