mint juleps in the general's study

Before dinner on our first evening in Natchez we were codially invited to have mint juleps in General Quitman's study.  We enjoyed the memorabilia and historical decor in this space located just off the patio. Because it was a warm night and I was already scratching bug bites, I asked that we sip our beverages inside.
Roosevelt, who makes juleps with mint grown on the grounds of Monmouth, is reputed to be the best mint julep maker for miles around. He has an impressive history with the house. He's been the subject of any number of newspaper and magazine articles.
He's famous; Roosevelt is, our waiter at the Restaurant 1818, told us later that evening. Generally, the mint juleps are served in Julep cups. As there was a lot going on at Monmouth that particular evening, no julep cups were available so we had our drinks in tall glasses. Not that any of us minded.
