karen's party

My middle sister hits the half century mark today. We celebrated last night with a surprise party planned and executed by my clever niece, the birthday girl's eldest child. We are having the most fun gathering books for my sister's fiftieth birthday.
It was my nieces idea. My sister has a library science degree and is a voracious reader so the idea is a perfect one. The birthday girl's savvy daughter has emailed and inboxed and texted people who represent most all periods of my sister's life.
The books submitted span much of her life and many of her interests.
Books, old photos, good friends...and a good time celebrating one of the coolest women on the planet.

I offered to sing karaoke but no one seemed very interested in hearing me. If I had, this is what I would have sung:

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you'll always remain
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young
Forever young

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
For, forever young, forever young
