I hardly recognized the entrance to Oakley house when we came upon it. The State of Louisiana, which owns the house and the surrounding acreage has done much development thereon since I have visited. A new museum, displays memorabilia from the house's history and regarding John James Audubon, its most famous occupant.
The house itself remains exceedingly well cared for and preserved. For me, it was like seeing an old friend again who still looks wonderful and whose charm is unchanged.
